This ritual is to honour the spirit of Samhain.
To perform this ritual, set up a space that feels sacred to you. Perhaps this is your bedroom, lounge room or a section of your garden. Then, read through the below instructions before practising the ritual to gain some prior insight. You will need a pen or pencil, a candle that burns for a minimum of 5 - 7 hours, a journal or paper, and seven rocks or pebbles.
Come sitting in a way that is comfortable to you, on a sheepskin or a cushion of your choice. Then, closing your eyes, take some deep breaths inhaling and exhaling long and slow for equal lengths. Do this several times to ground yourself, to become fully present in your body. State your name and call yourself fully present: "/ (insert name) call myself fully present."
Take your candle and place it on or near a window. As you light this candle, say these words each night for seven days:
"O little flame that burns so bright be a beacon on this night. Light the path for all those I love who have passed, so they may now see what lies ahead. Lead them to the Summerland and shine until Pan, the God of the Wind, may take their hands and guide them on. With Your light, please bring them peace, that they may rest and sleep with ease."
Feeling their presence as they come rushing in, spirits and holy ones. Those that guide and serve in perfect trust and love. Feel gratitude for their presence that comes to us through their living memory. Thank them for the blessings they continue to bestow.
State out loud:
"I honour you. I adore you. Thank you for being here.
Thank you for your presence. I send you nothing but the purest of love."
Now take out your rocks or pebbles and choose one. These rocks represent and honour those who have touched your life profoundly and deeply. Take the stone/rock you have chosen and write the name of the person you want to acknowledge. As you write their name, think of how they impacted you and say something like this:
"I am (insert your name), and I honour you (insert their name) for the (insert traits, gifts or blessings they gave you) and for all the other remarkable things that have contributed to me being the Woman I am today."
Place the stone/rock next to the candle. Now repeat the following:
"Mothers of the ancients, guardians of those who walked the earth thousands of years ago, I offer you this as a way of showing my gratitude. Your strength has flowed within me from the threads of those who have flowed from you. Your wisdom has given me knowledge, and your inspiration has given birth to harmony in my soul".
Now blow your candle out and give thanks to the Goddess in a way that feels right for you.
Repeat each evening for seven days in total. Eventually, on the seventh day, you will have seven stones all in a row next to your candle. These stones can be used in any future ritual, returned to your garden, or placed on your altar. Therefore, consider them consecrated and sacred.
